Tiverton is located approximately fifteen miles away from the City of Exeter and is situated on the river Exe and Loman. It’s a former market town, however its main wealth has been created from the textile industry.
As the largest town in Mid Devon, Tiverton has a population of approximately 17,500 people.
It sits in an agricultural region with red soil and is a patchwork of rolling fields and high hedgerows.
The Grand Western canal which originally opened in 1814 has since been renovated. It is approximately eleven miles of waterway that provides the opportunity for walking along its banks, fishing or taking a trip by barge.
The town has eleven churches, including the Georgian church of St. George which is particularly worth a visit. Tiverton Castle stands on Park Hill and was built in the 1100s.
Tiverton provides a number of shops, business parks, pubs and cafes and along with its primary schools, a large college, East Devon college, which is situated on the edge of the town for easy access to the North Devon Link Road.
