With a population of some 11,000 people, the seaside town of Ilfracombe lies in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty, nestled snugly amongst the rugged cliffs of the Atlantic coast.
The resort has been popular since the 1800s when the Victorians started to visit the area and many of the buildings in the town still give a reminder of this Victorian era. The town still celebrates this connection with its past by marking the occasion for eight days in June with its 'Victorian Week'. This began in 1995 and during this time many of the local people dress up in traditional Victorian attire.
In addition to Victorian Week, Ilfracombe is the base for many festivals throughout the summer. It has won many awards in the Britain in Bloom Competition and each year the town is awash with colour during the main holiday season.
